Boo! It's Halloween 2010

We survived a night of trick-or-treating with a gracious ladybug (Ashley) and a rambunctious San Diego Charger football player (Brandon).  Our family was invited to join the Sheffield's for some hors d'oeuvres, adult beverages, and neighborhood trick-or-treating with other families.  Brandon's classmate, Wilson and his younger brother Bennett, were Mario and Luigi and were the hosts of the party.  We had an enjoyable time mingling with other families and taking in a spectacular eastern view of the mountains from their home up on a high hill near the school.  Once it started to get dark, we then rallied the kids to start trick-or-treating at the neighbor's homes in Del Mar and really had fun as most of the parents also were dressed up in the spirit of Halloween.

Before heading out for the night, Ashley wanted to collect money for UNICEF and told Kevin and I that she was going to collect $45.00 for the night.  We tried to set the expectation that perhaps $5.00 would be more reasonable in collecting change from the homes, so she succumbed and agreed.  Amazingly enough though, Ashley nearly achieved her feat and collected $42.79 by visiting two blocks during the candy escapade.  We were surprised but so proud of her and the excitement she felt for knowing her efforts would help other children less fortunate.  Brandon was ecstatic at the full-size candy bars he scored from the generous families and wanted to go visit a few more homes.
