Summer flew by and school has once again begun on Monday, August 30th. The Friday night before school started, we logged onto the Del Mar Union School District's website to find out which teacher the students were assigned and as to how many students, and which students, they would be around for the school year.
Ashley has Mrs. Allard for third grade, which was her previous music teacher. Due to budget cuts though, she was re-assigned and has 21 students to teach. Ashley was excited and hoping she would be her teacher, so that seemed to be short-lived happiness. Ashley also found out that her best friends, Asia, Azu, and Kate were in her class, but not Abby or Dani, which was disheartening for her.
As for Brandon, we received a phone call from the principal at Del Mar Hills Academy, Mrs. Fitzpatrick, the Thursday afternoon prior inquiring if we would be interested in having Brandon enrolled in a blended class. The teacher, Mrs. Kvlastad, would be teaching 8 high performing first graders who do not have any behavioral issues along with 6 second graders. Our first inclination was to question why the principal would be calling about behavioral issues since school had not started, then we joked it was to probably prepare us for their speed dial to ensure it worked. Nevertheless, he was excited to know he would be in a blended class and jumping up and down knowing that his best friend, Dylan, was also in the same class. Whew!
