The New Children's Museum

We went to The New Children's Museum in San Diego on President's Day and had a great time with the various activities that they offered.

Ashley and Brandon did a lot of arts and crafts, including the new "bug" they created. After drawing their "creature" and cutting it out with scissors, they used watercolors and glitter to decorate and placed it in a small plastic cup to keep it safe and secure. They then used a magnifying class to accentuate their creation so all could see.  They both seemed enamored with bringing their own bug to life and patiently watched the guidance of the museum staff.

Other events that Ashley and Brandon enjoyed included making their own clay sculptures which they enjoyed doing and kept them occupied for around thirty minutes.  It was nice to them roll the clay, try to form it into an object, and if they weren't satisfied, hit it and flatten it out again to start the process all over again.

We were also able to see an artist in residence, Jason Hackenwerth, who is a sculptor and performance artist from New York City who uses balloons as his medium.  The kids were able to observe him create his art and also learn how to do it themselves.  It was very hands on and he allowed them to "crawl" inside the art and have their picture taken as "Animal Art".
