Our family has adopted two kittens through a Petsmart adoption from Cat AdopTion Service (CATS), which is a no-kill, volunteer organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and permanent placement of homeless cats and kittens.  Since they do not have a main shelter, they are at adoption locations or with foster families until placed.

Kevin and the kids are happy to announce that we adopted two kittens who were born on May 4, 2011 and are brother and sister.  Ashley is excited about having kittens in the house and Brandon is ecstatic that he can now love on cats to the same extent that Ashley does with dogs.

Joy is the calico colored female and the curious one.  Because of her interest in things and her stare down of Daisy at the store, this is the one that captured Kevin's heart.  In essence, he was a sucker for her and never deviated from wanting to adopt her.  What is interesting about Joy is that her eyes have a black strip that mimics that of a cat burglar and she does tend to like finding trouble.

Milo, origininally named Joey, was the quiet one and is the male orange colored cat.  He is smaller than Joy and more of the follower, but if push comes to shove, he can hold his own.  Because their other sibling had been adopted and he would have been the last one, we discussed adopted him too with the intent that they could keep each other company and their family could stay together.  I guess we are just a sucker for cats.

As for the dogs and how they are interacting with the newest additions, Cheeto had an interest in the kitttens and has been chasing them until he realized that he can't eat them.  Now he doesn't seem to pay too much attention to them now.  Daisy, however, has a keen interest in the kittens and likes to inspect and sniff at them.  Milo is very easy going and just hangs out after his introduction to the dogs.  Joy is the freaky one and she swats her paws at both dogs when they get too close.

Brandon, again the family cat lover, has been super excited about the kittens.  Within the first couple of days, he was asking if he could clean their litter box and take the poop bag out to the trash.  Although neither Ashley or Brandon enjoys scooping the poop, he stated he doesn't mind as he, "...is a sucker for these cats."

As for me, I had a conversation with Ashley, Brandon, and Kevin prior to the adoption approval to  make sure they understood that they would need to help in the care, feeding, and cleaning of the cats.  Although these kittens have been cute and are entertaining, I do not like the smell of cat urine or poop.  Since the kids have agreed to help out, my hope is that they will learn responsibility of pet ownership.  Only time will tell...
