School's Out - Let's Celebrate!

School is officially out and we made it through our first school year in California.  Ashley completed second grade with flying colors and Brandon was considered to be an exceptional student in Kindergarten.  Since the school year end on Thursday, June 17th, our summer break will be shorter than the standard  Texas school year as the new school year starts on Monday, August 30th.  It is still quite an adjustment for us to get acclimated to the nuances of California education, but we really feel fortunate to have them attending Del Mar Hills Academy because of the students, parents, and great teachers.  Whew!

In recognition of the end of the school season, the teacher's from both kindergarten classes invited the graduating kindergartner's to join them for desserts at Powerhouse Park in Del Mar.  It was to be a casual, unstructured afternoon to get together and just socialize, as well as breathe a sigh of relief that the school year was over and a small break from homework would be our summer treat.  Karri took the afternoon off from work to take Ashley and Brandon and it seemed there was the division of the sexes - all the boys played in the trees while the girls were playing on the playground.  The kindergarten teachers had made different types of treats and had it available for the children to snack while the parents caught up and reminisced about the school year.

Although it was nice to relax and take a reprieve from thoughts of homework and packing lunches, we realize that before we know it, the school year will be upon us as Ashley enters third grade and Brandon becomes a full-fledged first grader.  Time will fly too fast...
